Leon R. Gaither is a dedicated U.S. Army veteran, educator, and nonprofit leader with a lifelong commitment to serving veterans, children, and the community. With a career marked by service, innovation, and leadership, Leon brings passion and purpose to his role as President and Veterans Program Coordinator of 1st Veterans’ Kids Care, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Central Florida.

My Story

Military & Academic Background

Leon is a proud graduate of the University of Maryland, where he earned a B.S. degree in Zoology. He also completed Howard University’s ROTC Leadership Development Program, earning a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. Leon went on to graduate from the U.S. Army Field Artillery School Officer Basic Course (FAOBC) at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.

Building on his military foundation, Leon pursued advanced degrees in education:
🎓 Master’s in Science Education — Teacher Education University
🎓 Master’s in Educational Leadership — Teacher Education University

Since 1993, Leon has served in secondary and post-secondary education, teaching and mentoring students across K-20 grades, and inspiring young minds through science and leadership.

Leadership at 1st Veterans’ Kids Care

As Board President and Veterans Program Coordinator, Leon provides strategic vision, management, and oversight for the organization’s initiatives. His leadership has been instrumental in developing programs that address the needs of military children and families, with a focus on:

Expanding partnerships with veteran organizations, private sector allies, and educational institutions
Creating impactful programs that enhance the well-being of children
Strengthening the organization’s community presence and outreach
